San Diego Comic Con - What is it?

San Diego Comic Con AKA Nerd Mecca

SDCC is the biggest science fiction and comic book convention in the world. This convention started in the 1970's and is a yearly tradition for many people. These days, it's a gathering of approximately 130,000 pop culture fans every year and is only getting bigger. Last year, many movie studios and gaming companies offered events outside the trademark San Diego Convention Center that were open to the public which opened the possibility of even more people than the allotted space in the convention center itself. The convention consists of programming that includes panels of celebrities talking about their latest endeavors as well as exclusive clips from upcoming movies and the occasional pilot episode from new television shows. There's also an exhibit hall with booths full of free "swag" and items for sale. This is all available over four and a half days. Preview Night is on Wednesday night of each year and only open to four-day badge holders. Those who get into Preview Night get the first opportunity to buy exclusive items on the exhibit floor and are able to check out the setup for the year so that they have a tactical advantage to maneuvering around the convention center.
